Present Condition
Very weathered and broken at the top. The north-east face has been largely cut away to fix a ?gate whose hinge remains are set into the stone.
Description

Shaft of type g/h but with a double horizontal moulding set between the cylindrical and rectangular sections. The single panels on each face of the rectangular part are framed laterally by roll-moulding borders which curve inwards at the bottom to form a scallop.

A (north-west): There are traces of unidentifiable decoration on the rectangular section.

B (south-west): At the top of the shaft are two horizontal bars, one above the other, linking the vertical border mouldings. There appear to be vertical bars, just inside the borders, linking these horizontal elements.

C (south-east): No decoration visible

D (north-east): Cut away except at the base of the cylinder.

Discussion

Round-shaft (see Chapter V, p. 33). In general ornamental organisation this shaft closely resembles Sutton 2.
