Description

A (broad): The stone is plain, smoothly dressed, and two horseshoe-headed openings have been cut into the slab.

B (narrow): Broken

C (broad): As face A but a rougher surface, the more complete opening slightly splayed

D (narrow) and E (top): Smoothly finished with fine diagonal tooling

Discussion

This could have been the head of a double opening in a tower such as St Benet's, Cambridge (Brown 1925, fig. 180), and as such would date late in the pre-Conquest period.
