The slab is plain except for a cross (type B6) in low relief, which is set almost centrally on the slab.
Although this could have been a grave-cover, the central position of the cross prompts one to wonder whether this may have had some architectural function such as the lintel of an opening (cf. Clapham 1930, pl. 40). The arch outlined with a hood moulding which was noted by Taylor and Taylor (1965, I, 390: see Limpley Stoke 2 below) strengthens the idea of a stone church of later Saxon date. The simple cross type is not diagnostic for dating.
