A roll moulding encircles the upper edge of the font. It is decorated around its circumference with a series of single stepped-base columns resting on a plain wide flat band that encircles the lower edge. The columns are carved in relatively low relief and support arches springing from plain capitals/imposts. The arcade thus formed consists of eight niches of roughly equal proportions. These are plain and well-dressed at the same depth as the spandrels above, showing no signs of having been carved.
