Evidence for Discovery
Mentioned by Plot (1686, 432) in his discussion of 'tall pyramidal stones' at Leek, Chebsey and Checkley, but – if it ever existed – it was not seen by other commentators, being mentioned in general discussions on Anglo-Saxon sculpture in Staffordshire on the apparent assumption that it was once there (e.g. Cox 1730, 101).

Description

No information available apart from Plot’s reference.

Discussion

Appendix C item (lost stones for which no illustration has survived)

Given the lack of information discussion is not possible. Plot’s inclusion of it in the context of the round-shafted monument at Chebsey and the square-section shafts at Checkley does not even provide an indication of its potential form.
