Object type: Stepped pilaster base
Measurements:
W. of pilaster: 29 cm (11.4 in);
H. of steps in stepped base: upper 11 cm (4.3 in); lower 26 cm (10.2 in);
W. of steps in stepped base: 40 cm (15.8 in), 50 cm (19.7 in);
D. of lower step: 8.5 cm (3.3 in)
Stone type: Yellowish grey (5Y 7/2), poorly sorted, micritic, shelly oolite. The matrix-supported ooliths, which are concentrated in patches and form about 20% of the stone, are in the range 0.2 to 0.5 mm, but mostly are between 0.3 and 0.4 mm. The clast-supported shell fragments constitute about 60% of the stone. The fragments mostly range up to 0.5 mm across, but a few are up to 1.0 cm across. Ardley Member?, White Limestone Formation?, Great Oolite Group, Jurassic (same rock type as Coln Rogers 5).

The double-stepped base for this pilaster is not carved from a single stone as is no. 3, but made up of several stones (see Coln Rogers 3 for discussion of stepped bases).
