Worn and fragmentary with a small part obscured by mortar
Description
A (broad): This face is decorated with an interlace pattern of possibly four strands. The pattern is incomplete but one loop can be seen on the left-hand side, which appears to be the limit of the design. To the left is what appears to be an edge moulding. The upper, lower and right-hand side of the pattern are broken away.
B (narrow): There appears to be a small piece of interlace on this face, otherwise damaged and obscured.
C (broad) and D (narrow): Inaccessible
Discussion
Probably part of a cross-shaft, this piece appears to be decorated with a four-strand interlace ubiquitous in the region, found on many cross-shafts (e.g. at Alstonefield, Darley Dale (4), Two Dales, etc., most of which are dated to the tenth century).
