Prominent on the left-hand side of this fragment is a substantial cable edge moulding with a strand extending from it into the decorated panel to the right. Within this area is part of an irregular interlace. A diagonal strand crossing can be seen clearly just above the centre of the panel together with a V-shaped bend above. On the right-hand side is a vertical strand with a circular loop below. The interlace appears to pass over and under the vertical strand. The panel appears to be truncated on the right-hand side, so that the full extent or remainder of the pattern cannot be discerned.
This appears to be a small fragment of a cross-shaft which was decorated with an interlace pattern and with a cable edge moulding. All these design elements suggest that this is part of an Anglo-Saxon cross-shaft. As the decoration is fragmentary, it is difficult to add further to this.
